Living in a small space, especially if it’s condo living, obviously doesn’t usually have enough space for us to be able to store all our belongings, but it sure does push us to think of ways to organize everything at home, even with the limited space that we have.
So whether you’re about to start living in a condo space, or you’re already living in it, these tips will help you in organizing your condo space and storage space.
1. Declutter Regularly
With the limited space of a condo, decluttering is a must! As it is the initial step to organizing your living space, it should also be a regular habit to practice. Decluttering helps you to keep in check if your acquired things are being used or of no use at all anymore. It also gives you a view if your things still fit your available storage or you need to add more storage space.
Start on sorting which ones you’ll throw out, sell, and store. You have to be smart in decluttering and try not to end-up keeping the ones that will only cause even more clutter to the space you’re organizing.
2. Go for Multifunction Pieces of Furniture
With a given limited storage space, you have to be smart with what you place in your home. You can never go wrong in choosing to have multifunction furniture for your condo. It provides you with an efficient way of storing and organizing your home while creating that additional storage space you need, and not taking too much space.
For your living room, you can go for a coffee table that has extra storage space below that can hold magazines, books, board games, etc. Another one you can have is an ottoman which can be used as a chair, table, and storage box. There are also beds with drawers at the bottom sides which are really nice furniture items to use, especially if you have a lot of clothes. You can try getting the ones that come with pull-out beds as well; this is practical for families that live in a condo but don’t have enough rooms or beds to house each member. You can also use it when guests are staying over.
3. Put-on Wall Shelves
Since you don’t have that much space in the floor area, try putting up wall shelves instead of having shelf stands that consume more floor space. Wall shelves allow you to be able to store vertically and horizontally while giving you more foot space to go around. You can store all sorts of things and at the same time double it as a decor or an accent to your home.
4. Use Organizers for Your Closet
Closet organizers will not only make your stuff look organized, but it will also make it easy for you to locate anything you need. The good thing about using closet organizers is that you can adjust the design or look to your preference. You can have it with the same color, multi-color or even make it DIY. You can also opt to have hanging organizers that comes with pockets, shelvings, boxes, etc.
Another tip for a totally organized closet space is to label each organizer according to its purpose or type. You can print the labels and have them color-coded, or you can just be creative by personally writing the label names.
5. Consider a Sliding Cabinet
Shelves and cabinets with doors that open outwards will take-up space. Imagine opening and closing a cabinet or shelf where you have to move something first because you won’t be able to get what you need inside unless you move it. Instead of pulling doors, you can opt for sliding doors, open shelves and cabinets to store your belongings. For open shelves or cabinets, you can put curtains or put your things in organizers to avoid the look of mess and clutter.
6. Do it One at a Time
When you start the organizing and storage for your condo, keep in mind that you have to do it one at a time. With all the things that you have to do to organize and properly store everything, you can’t expect to do them all in one day. Set a schedule or a day for when you’re going to organize a particular space in your condo. Don’t stress yourself out by trying to do them in just one go because the main point of you doing all the organizing and storing is to lessen the stressful clutters at home, and not add up to it by tiring yourself in doing everything for a day. So have fun and take your time; the results will be even better!
7. Get Extra Self-Storage Space
At times, no matter how much we organize and declutter, the available space is not enough to store everything that needs to be stored. That’s why this is a problem. Because of the lack of storage space in our condo, we are forced to just let things get stacked and piled up. But do you know that there is already a solution to that? You can now look for self-storage space rental that can accommodate your storage space problem at a reasonable cost. Self-storage spaces also offer security, privacy, and easy access to the things you need to store. It acts as if it’s an extension of your own space.
Living and having a small space for our home isn’t really an issue if we know how to properly organize and store all of our belongings. Even if we have a big space, but we don’t know how to keep everything organized, it will all look cluttered. Organizing and storing everything in its proper place isn’t all that bad. It would just somehow take time depending on how much decluttering, organizing, and storing we need. But the bottom line is that we just have to start it now for us to be able to see how much of everything still needs to be worked on.
