Storing your couch in a storage unit may seem like a heavy task because they are usually big in size. But in actuality, you just have to take note of how you can safely store them in order to avoid scratches and further damages in the long run. Doing cleaning and protective methods to ensure that your couch will not lose its quality while in storage are all necessary for proper storage. So your next step should be: to think of ways to make sure that it stays safe inside the storage unit. That’s why in this article, we will be giving you tips to help store your couch in a storage unit

1. Find the Right Position

Keep your couch away from the walls of your storage unit for at least 4 to 8 inches. This also depends on how much more space you still have to move your couch away from the wall. The space in between your couch and the wall will create easy access and proper airflow. Moisture from the wall is not good for your couch and can affect its quality while in storage, especially if you are storing it for a longer period of time.

2. Store in Horizontal Position

Avoid storing your couch in a vertical position to save space inside the storage unit. Couches are meant to be placed horizontally, so they should also be stored that way. Storing your couch in a vertical position can cause pressure because of too much weight at one side. The coils, joints, and other inner workings can be damaged.

3. Don’t Directly Place on the Floor

If you are storing your couch in a storage unit, one of the things you need to do is to keep it from directly touching the ground. Use wooden pallets or cinder blocks to raise your couch above the ground. These will serve as a protective layer. Doing this will keep ground moisture from directly touching your couch.

4. Don’t Stack Items on Top of the Couch

Avoid stacking up items on top of your couch while in storage, such as heavy and pointed items. For wooden and leather couches, this can be crucial as it can cause scratches, damaging the fabric.
